Mogensen Sizers

The Mogensen Sizer combines a linear drive action with steeply declined decks, fitted with oversized mesh apertures to produce a unique screening system.

This system is based on the ‘probability’ of particles passing through a specified aperture within a pre- determined mesh length, thus producing a screen capable of tonnages far greater than conventional vibratory screens with the same footprint.

The width of the machine, starting at 0.5m up to our 3m- wide, dictates the throughput (Tons per hour). However,
screen length is shortened as the Mogensen Sizer uses a vertical material flow rather than conventional horizontal flow, therefore promoting better material separation and a low bed depth. This smaller footprint is more energy efficient, requires less support structure and is also more economical to maintain. 

The Mogensen Sizer is extremely effective for fines removal, de-dusting applications and grading granular materials such as fine ores. The Mogensen Sizer has a much higher throughput efficiency and higher separation method than standard vibratory screens and is a good solution for many applications. Examples of this are typically found in mining, quarries (limestone), coal de-dusting, animal feed and detergent powders etc. where separations of 25mm down to 0.6mm are required with high through-puts.

The Mogensen Sizer offers up to 7 separations of the material in one pass and is designed with customer specific bespoke outlets to handle these many product streams. 

Two Invicta Vibrator motors are used, normally mounted on the back of the unit to provide the required linear vibration. In most cases 6 pole motors are used that ensure a suitable vibration amplitude is achieved.

The main difference is the screening principle. A conventional vibrating screen moves material horizontally across a flat or slightly inclined deck, using apertures close to the required cut size. A sizer uses steeply inclined decks, oversized apertures and a vertical material flow, separating by probability. This gives a sizer much higher throughput in a smaller footprint, a shallow bed depth and sharper fines removal. Conventional screens suit general grading, while sizers excel at high-tonnage fines removal, de-dusting and grading difficult granular materials.

A sizer, or sizing screen, is a machine that separates bulk material into accurate size fractions at high throughput. The most common type combines a linear vibrating action with steeply inclined decks and oversized mesh apertures, separating material by the probability of particles passing through an aperture as they flow down the deck. Because of this design, a sizer can process far higher tonnages than a conventional flat vibrating screen of the same footprint, which makes it well suited to fines removal, de-dusting and grading granular materials.

Sizers are commonly built in three and five deck arrangements, and a multi-deck machine can produce up to seven separated product fractions in a single pass. As a general rule, each deck adds one more size separation. The right number of decks depends on how many finished grades are needed and the throughput required, so the configuration is usually matched to the application.

Sizers are particularly effective for fines removal, de-dusting and grading granular materials such as fine ores, typically handling separations from around 25mm down to under 1mm at high throughput. Common applications include mining and quarrying (for example limestone), coal de-dusting, animal feed and detergent powders, as well as salt, glass cullet, recycled aggregates and fertiliser. Sizers handle dry or damp materials and can be enclosed for dust control.

Common options include wear-resistant linings such as stainless steel, Hardox, ceramic, rubber or polyurethane, mesh cleaning systems, and bespoke inlet and outlet arrangements.

The shallow bed depth and shorter machine make it more energy efficient, require less support structure and lower maintenance, while still giving a sharp separation and effective fines removal.
